MMTA Chamber Music Festival and Competition

The Massachusetts Music Teachers Association announces their first annual Chamber Music Competition for students of middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12) and college ages.*
Participants will have a unique opportunity to have a coaching session of two full hours with some of the finest teachers from music institutions in the Boston area. Participating ensembles will prepare two contrasting movements from either
Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary repertoire for either string, wind, vocal or mixed ensembles. Compositions for four hands or two pianos will not be accepted.
The competition consists of two parts:
a) On Sunday, March 17, 2013, each ensemble will receive two hours of coaching with two different teachers. Ensembles will be selected by the teachers to perform at;
b) A Gala Recital held on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 4.00 P.M.. At the recital, a panel of judges will select the First, Second, and Third prize winners and award prizes and Honorable Mentions in each division. The panel will also select the best performances in Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary styles.
Decisions by the judges are final and may not be appealed.
The registration fee for the event is $85.00 per student. Students must be available for both parts of the competition. If the coach of a participating ensemble is not a member of MMTA an additional $40.00 fee will be charged.
