MMTA First Annual Chamber Music Festival and Competition

The Massachusetts Music Teachers Association announces a Chamber Music Competition for students of middle school (grades 6-8), high school (grades 9-12), and college ages.** Participants will have a unique opportunity to have a coaching session of two full hours with some of the best teachers from music institutions in the Boston area.
Participating ensembles will prepare two contrasting movements from either Baroque, Classical, Romantic or Contemporary repertoire for either string, wind, vocal or mixed ensembles. Unfortunately, no compositions for four hands or two pianos will be accepted.
The competition will consist of two parts:
a)On Sunday, February 16, 2014 or Saturday, February 22, 2014, each ensemble will receive two hours of coaching with two different teachers. The top ensembles will be selected by the teachers to perform at:
b) A gala recital on Saturday, March 1. There, a panel of judges will select the winners and award prizes.
The masterclasses and the Gala performance will take place in Rivers School Conservatory at 333 Winter St. Weston, MA 02493.
First, Second, Third prizes and Honorable Mention will be awarded in each division. In addition, the panel will select the best performances in Classical, Romantic and Contemporary styles. Winners will receive trophies and certificates from MMTA.
The registration fee for the event is $85.00 per each student.
If the coach of a participating ensemble is not a member of MMTA an additional $40.00 fee will be charged.
