Musical Achievement Evaluations (MAE)
Letter from the Chair
We have organized six centers and contacted experienced, well qualified Evaluators that will follow the Masterclass approach. This is a wonderful opportunity for students "to try out" repertory they are preparing for end of year performance opportunities, in a positive and nurturing environment. The personal interaction is the best way possible to evaluate and help support the learning process. It also serves as an educational tool to prove ourselves as dedicated and experienced music educators.
There are no levels or structure that determines what pieces are to be chosen. The teacher and student are free to select 2 pieces to be performed. Memory is encouraged but not required. The length of the evaluation is 15 min. It's recommended that students from beginner to late intermediate use up to 6 minutes of playing time and more advanced students 9 minutes.
We are now appealing to teachers who have not experienced the benefits of this Evaluation to please contact me for more details. We would also love to add a Center(s) to offer MAE to more teachers in MA. We need volunteers to Chair and help set up new Centers. The way it's organized offers a lot of support from the MMTA MAE Chair. Maria Reesman Chair, MMTA MAE 781-750-8840 mmreesman@yahoo.com
Now is the perfect time to start thinking about entering students in this evaluation. The deadlines start at the beginning of February, and the Dates for the Centers are in March and end in April. (see below for dates and places.)
I encourage you to discuss with your students and their parents the possibility of entering in such a worthwhile activity. I will be very happy to answer any and all questions. I can also help you contact teachers that already participate in this Event for more information. Hope to hear from you soon!!
