Bay State Strings Contest
The 2026 Bay State Strings Contest will be held on May 30, 2026 at Walnut Hill School in Natick MA.
Established in 1968, the MMTA Bay State Strings Contest is an annual statewide contest for all strings students ages 6 through 18. This contest gives the motivated and hard-working students of Massachusetts an opportunity to perform at a high level, receive written evaluations from judges, and compete for awards.

2026 Bay State Strings Contest Registration will open on Monday, April 6, 2026 through Sunday, May 3, 2026.

ELIGIBILITY:
This event is for strings students age 6-18 studying violin, viola, cello, and contrabass in Massachusetts.
ONLY teachers can register students for the Bay State Strings Contest. Registration entries completed by parents may result in disqualification.
Current MMTA members, except Collegiate Members, can register their students for the contest. MMTA/MTNA membership must have been completed by March 31st, 2026. Otherwise, a one-time $100.00 non-member fee applies.
String teachers, who are not MMTA members, can register their students for the contest.
To register students in “non-member” status, please contact the Bay State Strings Contest Chair at baystatestrings@mmta.net. A $100.00 non-member fee applies. We highly encourage non-member teachers to become MMTA members by signing up for membership at mtna.org by or before March 31st, 2026.
Contestants must have been residents of Massachusetts for six months or more prior to the contest. Current residential address is required for registration.
Contestants must have studied with the teacher for a minimum of six months preceding the contest.
