Massachusetts Documentary to Premiere at MTNA National Conference Gala

The Massachusetts Music Teachers Association is proud to announce the upcoming premiere of the Eben Tourjée Documentary at the MTNA Annual Conference in Chicago this March. The film will be featured during the MTNA National Conference Gala, marking a historic moment as this Massachusetts-led project is presented to colleagues from across the country in celebration of MTNA’s 150th Anniversary.

This documentary tells the story of Eben Tourjée, MTNA’s first president and founder of the New England Conservatory, whose visionary leadership helped shape the course of music education in America. Through archival research and interviews with national leaders, the film reflects on Tourjée’s enduring influence and the continued relevance of his belief in accessible, comprehensive music education.

This project was made possible through an Affiliate Enrichment Grant from the MTNA Foundation, along with additional financial support from MMTA. We are grateful for this investment in preserving and sharing our shared history.

The full documentary will be shared with our members following its premiere at the conference. We very much look forward to experiencing this special moment together with colleagues from across the country in Chicago as we celebrate MTNA’s 150th anniversary and honor the remarkable legacy that began here in Massachusetts. Stay tuned for more details and the upcoming video release.
