We are thrilled to share that the Massachusetts Music Teachers Association has been awarded a $1,000 Affiliate Grant from the MTNA Foundation Fund to support a special initiative celebrating the 150th Anniversary of MTNA.
This project—spearheaded by Past President and current Webmaster/Archivist Ellyses Kuan, MMTA President Valerie Stark, and Board Member Alison Barr—will center on the production of a short documentary honoring the legacy of MTNA’s first president, Eben Tourjée. As a distinguished New Englander and founder of the New England Conservatory, Tourjée’s visionary leadership helped shape the course of American music education.
The documentary will weave together historical insights and contemporary perspectives, featuring interviews with longtime MMTA members as well as emerging educators, including recent NEC graduates. With this film, MMTA hopes to celebrate our heritage while inspiring the next generation of music teachers and leaders.
